Course Description
The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is the most popular PADI specialty. But why is it so highly regarded?
Diving with enriched air offers numerous benefits, including longer no-decompression times, which is especially useful for repetitive dives. This means you can stay underwater longer and reduce the intervals between dives, enhancing your diving experience in terms of safety and enjoyment.
If you are at least 12 years old and hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification, you can enroll in the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Note that in some regions or states, the minimum age requirement may be higher.
Academic Path
In the course, you will learn not only about nitrox equipment considerations but also why using air with more oxygen and less nitrogen allows for longer bottom times.
During a theoretical and practical session, which includes two optional dives, you will learn to:
- Manage oxygen exposure.
- Analyze the oxygen content in your tank.
- Set your dive computer for enriched air nitrox dives.

Equipment You Will Use
Most modern scuba equipment and dive computers can be used with enriched air. Your PADI Instructor will confirm whether your equipment meets the manufacturer’s recommendations and local requirements. However, tanks must meet oxygen standards and be dedicated to enriched air use.
During the course, you will practice using oxygen analyzers and special tank decals. The staff at Underwater Academy will guide you on any additional equipment you may need for enriched air diving.
