Academic Path
When diving under the ice, teamwork becomes essential. You’ll learn the roles and responsibilities of support personnel, controllers, and safety divers. You’ll discuss the various types of ice, site selection and preparation, the effects of cold, emergency procedures, and equipment problem management.
During three closely supervised dives, you will practice:
- Using specialized equipment for ice diving and safety lines.
- Signals and communication, along with techniques for assisting and securing lines.
- Managing problems and underwater safety procedures.
Equipment You Will Use
In addition to your basic scuba gear, you will want to dive with a dry suit. Your PADI Instructor or dive center staff can recommend additional equipment for ice diving, such as a foldable snorkel to keep in your pocket, a reserve air supply like a pony bottle, and other technical gear.
Get ready for an unforgettable adventure under the ice!
