The course blends classroom discussions with two practical open water dives, where you’ll learn:

- The main groupings of marine life, their interactions, and information to debunk common myths.
- How to responsibly interact with aquatic plants and animals.
- The basic taxonomy of marine life and the role of plants and animals within food chains.
- Predator-prey dynamics and the importance of aquatic plants in the ecosystem.
- How to minimize your impact on marine life during dives.
- An underwater naturalist’s perspective on how organisms behave and their roles in the environment.
Course Structure:
The program is divided into two phases:
1. Knowledge Development: through independent study and classroom sessions.
2. Open Water Dives: two dives to practice your new underwater naturalist skills.
The first dive in this course can also be credited as an Adventure Dive towards your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
Required Equipment:
In addition to your basic scuba gear, you will need a slate and pencil to record your observations during the dives.
